Step-by-step instructions for installing a late-model style in-tank fuel pump in your classic Ford muscle car. In Part I of this article series I discussed the values of ditching the factory mechanical fuel-pump for a more modern electric fuel pump. Not only was I condoning the benefits due to the simple advantages of modern.
Ford Mustang owners have reported 24 problems related to fuel pump (under the gasoline fuel system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Ford Mustang based on all problems reported for the Mustang.
2006 Mustang gt- fuel sender needs replacement. Trouble code p0456 comes up. The fuel pump on vehicles built before January 1st, 2006 had an oversized orifice and would cause a leak in the evaporative system. The fuel pump itself will not be at danger for a failure although with an evap code you may lose fuel economy due to the tank not being properly pressurized. Also you will not pass a 'smog' test with this code.

2006 Mustang 4. 0 operated at 68 mph for 22 miles. Came to intersection and stopped. Accelerated while turning into traffic and vehicle hesitated and engine died. I was nearly hit by tractor trailer rig broadside at 50 + mph. Nhtsa and Ford motor CO. Are aware of this defect as per TSB 06-9-9 which advises to replace original fuel pump with 7r3z-9h307-c fuel pump at the expense of the vehicle owner. This is a safety issue not a TSB issue! someone will be killed by this defect! it also is not in safety's interest to expect vehicle owners to spend more than $300. 00 out of pocket for this repair when many owners will delay this expense. This defect should definitely be handled as a recall !.
In 2008 Ford replaced the gas tank on the Ford Mustang because of a defect in the gas tank for refueling. Engine light comes on indicating either low fuel pressure or emmitting emissions. Verified problem at perry Ford poway CA with rick explained that the new gas tank needed to have new fuel pump cell to match the new gas tank. Ford customer service verified only new gas tank installed in 2008. Ford wants me to pay for correcting their error of not matching the right fuel pump cell to the new gas tank. If the gas tank is leaking fumes this should be considered a risk to me and other that had a gas tank replaced.

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Mustang gt. The contact stated that she cannot place fuel in the vehicle. The fuel gauge indicates that there is a quarter tank of gas or a half tank of gas; however, the fuel pump will shut off and prevent her from placing any more fuel into the tank. When filling the tank, gasoline would also spit back out from the vehicle. The dealer stated that the slow fill was faulty. The manufacturer could not assist because there was a technical service bulletin produced for the failure and they knew how to perform the repair. The failure mileage was 33,000 and current mileage was 35,900.
Fuel pump broke down.
Since I purchased my Mustang 30 days ago it's been in the shop four times for the same problem. The first time they could not find anything wrong, the second time it was the canister valve, the third time the fuel pump module, and now they don't know again. The car stalls and refuses to start. I called Ford motor's roadside assistance on Friday 11/18/05 for the fifth time because my car would not start. The gentlemen had me push a button to reset the fuel pump and the car started. Ford also reneged on their promise to offer me a loaner car, stating I exhausted that benefit, however that makes absolutely no sense because if they had fixed the problem the first time, I would not have had to miss so many days from work and delayed my vacation because I cannot rely on my vehicle.
Fuel pump had to be replaced after only 6,600 miles. Company indicated no recalls, but this seems ridiculous for such low miles. Warranty had expired 6 months before. Vehicle always had low power.

Started car in parking lot, rumbled violently. Put car into drive, turning out of parking lot car dies and am able to coast to the side of the road. Fuel pump had gone out on car. New pump directly from Ford dealership was put into car. 3 weeks later I was at a stop light, car started to rumble again, was able to creep through the intersection before car died in the middle of a 4 lane highway. Fuel pump and fuel pump fuse needed to be replaced.
Purchased a 2005 Ford Mustang in may, 2005. Ford failed to notify costumers that some of the 2005 Ford Mustangs may exhibit the fuel bank being slow or difficult to fill. Basically, the fuel pump will shut off while pumping gas, as if the tank was full. Ford did issue a service bulletin, TSB 05-4-8, after I purchasing the car, suggesting that Ford's service department will replace the gas tank. The bulletin stated that the condition may be due to the fuel tank vapor venting system inside the fuel tank. Although the gas tank was replaced the problem remained. Ford did not consider this a defect, but rather a characteristic of the new model of Ford Mustangs. As a result, I could not take the car on extended trips because I was not sure that I will be able to find a pump that will allow gas into the car. Out of 7 service stations in vallejo, I was only able to use 1 successfully, and even that one now failed to give me more than $10. 00 or less worth of gas.
While fueling car. . . Gas poured out of car. . Caused by damaged 'o' ring around fueling nozzle from neck to tank. . . Significant fuel spill. . . Dangerous amount of fuel lost and leaking. . . Have owned several vehicles. . . . Never have known this to happen. . . Hazard to area while fueling due to fuel spill. Went to dealership 3 times in order to receive the correct part for replacement. Potential fire hazard-if not explosion capability if ignited while fueling. Perhaps a design flaw in the 'o' ring. Purchased car in 1998, wonders. . . Should this part have worn out in this manner?.
Fuel pump failure, car stalls almost causing accident & would not start when hot. Fuel pump replaced at 36,500 miles! dealer wouldn't repair under warranty. Fuel pump replaced again at 59,234 miles, same problem.

The first time the car just quite on the highway while driving in rush hour traffic while we were on vacation. The second time it lost power and was starting very hard (10 to 15 sec. To start). Both times it was loss of fuel pressure and needed a fuel pump assembly. The fuel pump its self was fine, but a small clear flexible hose that attaches from the fuel pump/basket assembly in the gas tank to the lid that bolts on the top of the gas tank rubs against various parts inside the gas tank and wears a hole in it. Since this estimated $2 item cannot be purchased separately I was forced to spend hundreds of dollars on the whole assembly. The mechanics at the dealership explained to me that 90% of the 'fuel pump failures' have had nothing to really due with the fuel pump. It was either the hose inside the gas tank rubbing through or the wires inside rubbing through. Why is there no recall for this? I would ask for a push for the hoses but if the wiring in the gas tank is wearing through also it needs to be changed before someone gets killed if they have not yet!.
The vehicles fuel pump failed and caused the engine to cut off while driving 65 mph. The pump was replaced once prior to this incident. .
Consumer states having problems with fuel pump causing the vehicle to stall.

Fuel pump breaks free from in-tank attachment point resulting in fuel level indicator malfunction and fuel starvation when corning, acceleration or abrupt deceleration. Causes unexpected lag in acceleration or vehicle may stall at inopportune times. Since original replacement of entire fuel tank assembly by Ford the fuel sender in this vehicle has been repaired/replaced 2 additional times. Dealership noted that the plastic ring sender attaches to cracks and only way to repair is to replace entire fuel tank at cost of approx $900. Most recent 2 replacements occurred outside of extended warranty by a few days and Ford refused to replace under warranty even though the vehicle had been parked over the winter and issue was not discovered until vehicle came out of storage after the extended warranty had expired. Repair had occurred in fall before vehicle went into storage. Each time fuel tank is replace ring cracks again, usually within 30-90days. This is a hazard as it is impossible to determine when the vehicle will experience fuel starvation or stalling, possibly resulting in accident or injury outside drivers ability to avoid.
Vehicle would hesitate, cut off or not start back up. Dealer had to replace fuel pump because no gas was getting to fuel injectors. Consumer has had the vehicle for 2 years, and was responsible for $607. 19.
Electric fuel pump failed twice.
While traveling at 70 mph the vehicle lost power, forcing an emergency exit from the highway. The vehicle was towed to the nearest Ford dearlership and we were advised that a technical service bulletin had been issued advising dealers that there was a problem with a wax ring in the fuel system that was breaking apart and the wax pieces were lodging in the fuel pump casing the car to lose power. No recalls had been issued because we were told the cars were all still under warranty.
Fuel pump failed.
Fuel pump failed causing engine to shut down in traffic.
Vehicle is difficult to start. Took it to dealer, and the dealer has replaced the fuel pump 5 times.

not for sure if its the 289 but most carburated engines have afuel pump on the driver side of the side of the motor;it has twometal line that bolt into it; one inlet and one return there sideby side just take those two lines off then the two bolts off thathold the pump on,then bolt the new pump on and install the lines inthe correct places
You have to drop the fuel tank. There are three bolts that keep it on and it's pretty straightforward. The fuel pump is located inside the tank.
The 1994 Ford Mustang fuel pump relay switch is located below the fuel injector pump. The relay switch should be labeled as such.
Don't know about the mustang, but a lot of fords have the fuel pump inside the gas tank. the 2001 mustang is in the gas tank
The 1973 Mustang has a mechanical fuel pump driven by the engine. It is not electric so it has no fuse.
There was never a fuse for a water pump in a 1970 mustang. They used a mechanical pump
If there is fuel in the tank and it is making it's way to the fuel pump, and the fuel pump will not pump fuel, the pump is obviously defective. Replace the fuel pump with a new one.
a factory 1990 mustang has an intank electric fuel pump not a mechanical hope this helps
not correctly. Its not that hard if the tank isn't full.
location of fuel pump reset switch on 2007 mustang
No, you can only access the pump from the top of the gas tank and there is no panel in the trunk floor.
The fuel pump relay on a 1999 Ford Mustang GT has a returnless fuel system which uses a Fuel Pump Driver Module. It is located underneath the luggage compartment trim panel.
Not from the factory because it has a mechanical fuel pump with your carburetor equipped engine
On a 3.8L 95 mustang the oil filter mounts to the oil pump.
The average cost to replace a fuel pump in a Ford Mustang is about 500 dollars to about 600 dollars. This includes both the new part and the labor.
Change the fuel filter first. If that doesn't help, change the fuel pump.
A 1996 Ford Mustang GT , 4.6L V8 engine : Has ( 1 ELECTRIC fuel pump INSIDE the fuel tank )
On a 1999 Ford Mustang : In the Power distribution box ( which is ' live ' ) located in the engine compartment ( # 14 is a 20 amp mini fuse for the fuel pump )
Remove fuel lines Remove 2 mounting bolts Slide fuel pump out Replace pump and gasket Make sure engine cam operates fuel pump lever
to check the pump ,you need to remove the out fuel line from the pump. this is the line that goes from the pump to the injectors or carburettor, etc then crank engine. if pump is good, fuel will shoot out of the pump.then just replace fuel line
There is an access door in the trunk for the fuel pump. You can change it from there.
You can change the fuel pump in Renault clio 1.2 by opening the fuel pump gauge and inserting the fuel pump there. This is a simple process relatively speaking.
I remember reading that there is a reset switch in the trunk of my 1998 Mustang. If the car gets in a wreck the fuel pump will shut off and you have to flip the switch in the trunk to get it to start.
All fuel injected mustangs have fuel pumps mounted inside the fuel tank.
