You must also pass a vision test, show identification, and pay a fee of $158.25 (which will also cover your first behind-the-wheel test). Once you successfully pass the written and vision tests, you will get your G1 Permit, which will be your driver's licence for up to five years from the date of issue.
Until you pass your G1 road test, you must drive with a fully-licenced driver in the passenger seat and observe the following restrictions and rules:
A prepaid road test fee will only be valid for 5 years from the original date paid. If you do not attempt a road test within that time period you will forfeit the $40.00 road test fee.
If you have not attempted the road test by the time your G1 licence expires, you will be required to pay $85 to renew your G1 licence for another 5 years. If you renew immediately and do the test within 1 year you will not be required to pay $40. The $40 road test fee will expire at the end of the first year of that renewal period.
If you let the original G1 expire and do not renew immediately, the one year 'grace' period will continue from the original date. For example, it you take 4 months before renewing then you will pay $85 to renew but will only have 8 months to attempt the test. If you go longer than 8 months, you would be required to pay $40 prior to booking a road test.
If you wait more than 1 year to renew you will forfeit the $40.00 road test fee and would have to pay the full $125.00 in order to start over.

To make our g1 online practice test sets as realistic as possible, the format and all of the questions and answers found within, have been developed with the assistance of other new drivers who have already completed the actual Ontario G1 drivers test, as well as from the official Ministry of Transportation (MTO) Driver's Handbook. The MTO driver's handbook can be found in various usable formats online, or you can purchase it through Service Ontario here: Official Ministry of Transportation Driver's Handbook, or through a variety of other book sellers. For best results with the official G1 test, it is highly recommended that you use all of our G1 test online series in conjunction with a study of the MTO driving handbook.
ICanDrive.ca also provides a series about Ontario rules of the road, which is another requirement for the official G1 knowledge test. The first road rules practice test to study G1 online can be found here: G1 driving rules.
